THANK YOU first and foremost for deciding to take a lifetime commitment and adding to your family! The adoption form below is our first step towards adoption and starts our screening process to ensure a great and lasting match for both you and the animal.
We understand the desire to meet our animals as soon as possible. Because we operate entirely out of foster homes, we need to limit pet visitation to approved applicants only.
Once your adoption application is approved, we will reach out to you directly to schedule a meet-n-greet with the animal you have chosen to meet. This will take place at the foster's home. ALL members of the household (excluding pets) are required to attend the meet-n-greet. After this meeting, if all are in agreement that the animal is a good match for your family, you will have the option to adopt. You will then be required to read and sign the adoption contract as well as pay the adoption fee before being given the animal.
During the meet-n-greet, The Furry Paws Foster Inn foster parent and the applicant(s) will make a determination if there is a match. You are NEVER obligated to adopt the animal; it is your decision whether to adopt once it is determined that there is a good match*.
We do not have a policy about ages of children, the determination is case-by-case. We love children and animals together. However, we DO expect that all children will be respectful, gentle and kind to the animals and be supervised by the adult in the family, closely supervised if the children are very young.
While we do welcome out-of-state applicants, we highly encourage you to look around at your local shelters to see what they may have to offer before contacting us. We do not “ship” our animals.
*The Furry Paws Foster Inn has the right to deny an adoption to anyone for any reason at any time in the process.
You must be at least 18 years old to adopt an animal from us. The adoption process consists of your completion of an adoption application, our review of the application, contacting relevant references, verifying the application information, and then contacting you with a decision about approval. Please note that this process may take up to seven days so your patience is appreciated as we receive many applications each day and have many animals to care for. When your references respond in a timely manner, the process moves along quicker. Please be sure to let your references know they will be contacted by a member of our team.
Congratulations on your newest family member! We are always incredibly excited to match one of our animals with their forever family. And we do mean forever family! When you adopt an animal, it is a commitment that you make to the animal for its lifetime. Our organization is always available to answer questions or concerns with your new family member and help in any way we can.
By adopting from The Furry Paws Foster Inn, you're making a commitment to nurture, love, care, and provide food/shelter/medical treatment for the pet's lifetime, which can go up to the 12-18 year mark. Adopting a new pet is a serious commitment, but a commitment that is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling! We, along with your furry friend, are excited to know your family is embarking on this new journey. Once the adoption is finalized, our rescue will reach out to your family to check in on how everyone is settling in. Of course, we hope that you will maintain communication with us periodically, as we are always available to help and/or hear stories of our rescue graduates! Foster parents in particular love hearing about how their former fosters are doing at their forever homes :)
Even after adoption, our commitment to the animal doesn't end. If the adopter has questions, needs advice about behavior or care, we are always here. We also understand that life throws challenges at families and that some circumstances cannot be changed. If for some reason you wish or need to surrender a cat that you've adopted from us, no matter how long ago you adopted from us, you are expected and required to notify The Furry Paws Foster Inn. This policy is in place so that we can ensure all of our animals are placed in long-term homes instead of on the streets. We make a lifetime commitment to all of our animals, and we take this commitment seriously. If you need to re-home your animal for whatever reason, we ask that we be informed to help with the re-homing/surrendering process.
If adoption is a longer-term commitment than you are ready or willing to do, we would welcome anyone who would like to foster instead! Our foster program connects families with an animal in need of a temporary home until they can be matched with their long-term forever family.
